Drug Rehab Specialists Share the Causes of Substance Abuse
Gang wars, violence, crime, thievery, murder, strained relationships, failed—these are just some of the social problems brought about by drug addiction. In fact, the problem is so great that social scientists, doctors, and drug rehab experts now consider it as a worldwide social and moral dilemma.
Everyone is fighting the worldwide drug problem. Authorities and government agencies have worked ceaselessly to capture drug pushers, users, and suppliers. A country’s coast guard, immigration, and military apprehend drug smugglers who are willing to fight back to protect their dreaded treasure. Families and friends move mountains to keep their loved ones away from drugs.
Despite all these efforts, the drug problem persists and, according to countless studies has become worse. What could have made people start using drugs in the first place?
1. Peer pressure
According to sociologists and drug rehab professionals, peer pressure hugely contributes to the addiction problem. Children, teens, and young adults are very susceptible to the influence of friends because they still have this extremely strong desire to be “in the crowd” or “to be cool.”
2. Easy access
Poor areas and urban slums have increased in size and number. These areas are nesting places for drug pushers and sellers who hide from the authorities. Drug users can easily go here, hide among the shanties, and close a transaction.
3. Troubled families
Domestic abuse, lack of time and interaction within family members, busy lifestyles, and frequent misunderstandings and fights within the family are main reasons why family members resort to drugs. By taking drugs, they have this false perception of feeling better. That “good feeling” is actually the effect of the drug on the brain’s neural activities.
4. Work and School Stress
As per drug rehab experts, psychologists, and sociologists, stress from work and school are key factors in the proliferation of drug abuse. Stressed workers and students take on drugs to feel energized, alert, and awake.
5. Personal problems
Heartbreaks, financial problems, insecurity, desperation, and other personal problems are also primary factors why people use drugs. The victim takes drugs to get that feeling of bliss, which they think, will block out their problems.
